A common question arises around Work Rights restrictions for post-graduate (Masters by research and PhD students). The VEVO service (and thus vSure) will always show a work rights limitation (8104 or 8105 - 40 hours per fortnight) for ALL student visa holders.
Nonetheless, this restriction does NOT apply IF the student is pursuing post graduate studies by research such as Masters by research and Doctoral Degrees.
See the following Home Affairs article: https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/trav/stud/more/work-conditions-for-student-visa-holders
Specifically quoting the relevant section:
If you are a postgraduate research student:
- you can work a maximum of 40 hours per fortnight during any preliminary courses you undertake
- if you have commenced your masters by research or doctoral degree in Australia, there is no limit on the number of hours you may work.
